Area attractions prepare for season openings

Parkersburg, WV (April 24, 2009) – A number of area attractions will soon begin opening for the busy summer tourism season, reported Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau President Steve Nicely.

“May is typically the month that our attractions really begin to open and things start hopping with activity,” Nicely said. “While many attractions are open year-round, several are seasonal and the warmer weather months provide a bevy of fun for visitors and locals to enjoy. We encourage everyone to explore what our immediate area has to offer all ages and interests.”

Attraction Openings

May 1– Blennerhassett Island Historic State Park (www.blennerhassettislandstatepark.com)

May 1 – Ruble’s Sternwheeler River Cruises

May 2 – the Wilds, Safari Transport Tours (www.thewilds.com)

May 3 – Valley Gem Sternwheeler Seasonal Cruises (www.thevalleygem.com)

“In addition, the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta opened for the season in early April,” Nicely said. “We also want to encourage people to visit other area museums, shops, restaurants, attractions and parks. This is a great year to stay close to home for your vacation or weekend getaways, at very little overall cost.”

Nicely also noted that residents and visitors should be aware that the docking stations for both Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park and the Valley Gem Sternwheeler have changed for the 2009 season. Visitors to Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park will board the sternwheeler from Civitan Park in Belpre, Ohio due to the construction of the new riverfront park at Point Park in downtown Parkersburg. Visitors also seeking to enjoy river cruises aboard the Valley Gem Sternwheeler in Marietta, Ohio will board and debark behind Armory Square on Front Street due to construction on the Washington Street bridge in Marietta.
